Brian Brophy is an associate attorney at Tobener Ravenscroft, LLP. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at the AIDS Legal Referral Panel in San Francisco, where he represented tenants in unlawful detainer proceedings and counseled many others on housing issues. Dedicated to housing and tenant rights, Mr. Brophy has presented in front of large groups on tenant law issues, volunteered at the General Assistance Advocacy Project, and spent several stints volunteering on housing projects in and around New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. An experienced litigator, Mr. Brophy has trained other attorneys at continuing legal education presentations regarding filing affirmative lawsuits against landlords and property managers.
Mr. Brophy has counseled thousands of tenants on matters relating to eviction defense, wrongful eviction, illegal units, habitability defects, landlord harassment, disability, sexual orientiation, and race discrimination, and property damage and bodily injury claims. Mr. Brophy has secured substantial settlements for dozens of clients over the last several years, including multiple cases that settled for more than $1 million. In addition, Mr. Brophy has represented tenants at rent board and other administrative hearings.
Brian was selected to the 2020 Northern California Rising Star list by Super Lawyers, an honor reserved for lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice. Only 2.5% of attorneys in Northern California receive this distinction.
